Hundreds of people turned up to watch Shayne Ward turning on the Christmas lights in Slough town square yesterday.
The heartthrob singer had to compete with the din of screaming girls when he sung his new single, Breathless.
Mayor of Slough, Rashad Butt, had a much less roaring reception, as he and Shayne pulled the lever that turned on the lights, and started a spectacular fireworks display.
Shayne made many teen dreams come true by giving the whole front row a kiss, and said "I'm really happy to be in Slough for the first time."

I found out that Shayne Ward would be turning on Slough’s Christmas lights via Slough council’s local website. As I am writing stories from my ‘beat’, I regularly check the website to se if there is anything of interest coming up in the local area.
I was hoping that I might be able to get a good photo too from the event, however I underestimated how popular Shayne Ward was, and when I arrived at the event I realised that it would be impossible to get near enough to take a good photo, as there were so many people fighting to get to the front.
Before I got the story, I intended to make it a longer piece as I thought that a pop star being in Slough is an exciting event. However, as he was on stage for such a short time and only sung one song, I decided to make it a snappier, more informative article. I retrieved the picture courtesy of Shayne Ward’s My Space page because there are photos of him that are allowed to be used by the public.
I also thought it was a nice idea to add a You Tube link to his latest single on my blog, as it was the one he performed at Slough, and it is the type of medium that the fan base of Shayne Ward would be interested in.
